Australian Fitness Network PhD Scholarship
The Australian Institute of Fitness Research is a joint partnership between the Australian Institute of Fitness and The University of the Sunshine Coast. Our research is focused on further development of valid fitness industry protocols that are safe and effective for both specific broader populations. As a highly talented motivated candidate your post-graduate studies (PhD by research) project is related to “The Value of Group Fitness Classes”. The research will measure the effectiveness of group fitness classes on the health and wellbeing of at risk populations, under supervision of Professor Brendan Burkett and Dr Mark McKean, at the Australian Institute of Fitness Research. Applicants must have Australian citizenship, or be permanent residents of Australia, and plan to undertake their degree full time. Applicants must have an Honours degree (first class), or a Masters by research, or equivalent research training. Previous experience within the fitness industry and group fitness classes would be beneficial. Co-facilitator - ENRICH
Interested in working with people impacted by cancer? ·         Expressions of interest invited from Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists ·         Be involved in improving the quality of life and lifestyle risk behaviours of cancer survivors, their carers or partners   Cancer Council NSW is dedicated to defeating cancer by building a cancer smart community. We are seeking expressions of interest from experienced Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists to co-facilitate a new program for cancer survivors and carers called ENRICH (exercise and nutrition routine improving cancer health).   ENRICH is a skills development program teaching people to make healthy eating choices and increase their physical activity. It aims to improve the quality of life and lifestyle risk behaviours of people who have had cancer and their carers or partners.   Programs consist of six face-to-face group sessions held over eight weeks. Sessions are co-facilitated with a Dietitian or Nutritionist. Cancer Council will provide training, coursework and resources. We aim to schedule programs throughout NSW.   Expressions of interest must address the Essential and Desirable criteria:   Essential criteria: ·        Tertiary qualifications in Exercise Physiology and/or Physiotherapy. ·        Membership of Exercise and Sports Science Australia or Australian Physiotherapy Association. ·         Knowledge and understanding of the needs of persons affected by cancer and partners/carers. ·        Excellent verbal, listening and communication skills. ·         High level presentation and motivational abilities. ·         Desire to help people affected by cancer.   Desirable criteria: ·        Experience in motivational coaching to encourage behaviour change. ·        Experience prescribing tailored group activity programs (home-based walking and resistance training).
