Research & Recognition

ESSA directly supports the delivery of relevant, evidence-based research to practice by identifying and funding high-quality project grants and offering in-kind support for research projects. The ESSA Medal is awarded annually in recognition of the most outstanding Australian PhD thesis, approved for graduation in the field of exercise and sports science and related fields.

The ESSA Research Committee has been established to oversee and define ESSA’s research priorities and activities, as well as assist with the translation and dissemination of Australian exercise and sports science research. This includes providing expertise in the assessment of applications for research grants, in-kind research support and nominations for the ESSA Medal.

All research supported by ESSA must comply with the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2018), the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2023)  and AIATSIS Code of Ethics (2020) as required.
