2012 Conference Awards

Best Conference Paper Award/s

The prestigious award of “Best Scientific Presentation” will be awarded to delegates who present an oral or poster presentation within the exercise physiology, exercise science, sports science or sports nutrition disciplines. Candidates will be judged on originality and quality of the research, the applicability of the results, quality of presentation and ability to rationalise their work.

Award categories

Eligibility Criteria

For the Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science and Sports Science awards, candidates must be current financial ESSA members, who present the paper orally or on poster.  For the Sports Nutrition award, candidates must be members of Sports Dietitians Australia (SDA) who present their paper either orally or by poster.  The paper must not have been presented previously at other conferences nor may it have been published in a peer-reviewed journal at the time of presentation. Applicants must be the principal contributor to the work being presented and must nominate for the award at the time of abstract submission.

Young Investigator Award – Oral Presentation.

Sponsored by The University of Queensland School of Human Movement Studies.

This award will be presented for the best oral presentation by a young scientist (e.g. PhD or Masters Student, post-doc) in exercise and sport science. Finalists are judged on originality, quality of research, the applicability of the results, quality of presentation and the ability to justify their work.

Prize

  • Award plaque
  • Cash prize of $500

Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA)/European College of Sports Science Conference (ECSS) – Best Research Poster Exchange

This award will be presented for the best poster by a young scientist (e.g. PhD or Masters Student, post-doc) in exercise and sport science.

The ESSA/ECSS Best Research Poster Exchange provides the opportunity for the candidate who is awarded the winning poster the chance to attend the annual European College of Sports Science Conference(ECSS)*. The exchange package will allow the candidate the opportunity to:

  • Display their poster presentation in a prominent position in the poster area of the ECSS conference;
  • Reserve a dedicated 5-minute period within the conference program to present the awarded poster and answer questions;

The prize includes:

  • Full ECSS conference registration;
  • Accommodation for the duration of the conference.

*Please note that travel expenses will be the responsibility of the delegate.
