Conference Award Information

ESSA 2010 is pleased to annouce the following awards.    

 

Young Investigator Award

- Oral presentation (exercise and sport science)
- Poster presentation (exercise and sport science)

 
These awards will be presented for the best oral presentation and the best poster by a young scientist (eg PhD or Masters student, post-doc) in exercise and sport science, and the best presentation in sports nutrition. Finalists for the award of best oral presentation by a young investigator will re-present their oral paper to a panel of judges on the final day of the conference.  The finalists will be judged on originality and quality of the research, the applicability of the results, quality of presentation and ability to justify their work.

Criteria:  Candidates must be current financial ESSA or SDA members, must not have been awarded a PhD in the immediate 2 years prior to the conference and must be younger than 35 years of age.  The paper must not have been presented previously at other conferences nor may it have been published in a peer-reviewed journal at the time of presentation.  Candidates must be the principal contributor to the work being presented and must nominate for the award prior to the conference.

 
Best Scientific Paper Presentation

-          Exercise Science (plaque)
-          Sport Science (plaque)
 
The prestigious award of “Best Scientific Presentation” will be available to delegates who present an oral or poster presentation within the exercise science or sports science disciplines. Candidates will be judged on originality and quality of the research, the applicability of the results, quality of presentation and ability to rationalise their work.
 
Criteria:  For the Exercise science and Sports science awards, candidates must be current financial ESSA members, who present the paper orally or on poster.  For the Sports Nutrition award, candidates must be members of SDA who present their paper either orallly or by poster.  The paper must not have been presented previously at other conferences nor may it have been published in a peer-reviewed journal at the time of presentation. Applicants must be the principal contributor to the work being presented and must nominate for the award prior to the conference.

 
Professional Practice Award (plaque)

This award is intended to recognise the “best application of science to professional practice” for work undertaken by clinical practitioners and sports scientists within professional practice settings. The award rewards those delegates who generate or utilise “best evidence” to further professional practice in non-traditional research settings.

Criteria: Candidates must be current financial ESSA members who undertake a project predominantly within a professional practice setting (e.g. a rehabilitation clinic; sports science practice). Candidates must present a paper (oral or poster) that describes work that makes a significant contribution to professional practice within the Exercise and Sports Sciences. The paper must not have been presented previously at other conferences nor may it have been published in a peer-reviewed journal at the time of presentation. The candidate must be the principal contributor of the work being presented and must nominate for the award prior to the conference.
