Spinal Rehabilitation (Part 2) – Exercises to Improve Lumbar Stability and Mobility
This workshop is designed for exercise scientists and exercise physiologists working with clients who have low back pain issues. The focus of this clinically relevant and practically directed workshop is on the development of exercises programs that may assist in the restoration of stability and mobility in the lumbar spine.
Successful recovery of function following lower back pain involves targeting a range of parameters including restoration of muscle control and normal patterns of movement. There is an endless range of exercises available to achieve this with a number of popular schools of thought how to get optimal results. Piecing these together to form a cohesive progressive rehabilitation program can be a challenging process for the exercise practitioner. The workshop will provide a blend of practical and theory and will include a vast array of exercises for back rehabilitation.
The exercise focus for this workshop will be on restoration of mobility and stability of the spine. This will include progressive low grade activities to assist in improving motor control (including core activation) and to commence strengthening to return the individual to normal functional activities. Exercises integrating stretching activities, light loading, body weight exercises, and swiss ball type activities will be targeted in the course.
This workshop will also include a practical overview of a range of popular approaches in the assessment and management of low back pain. Case based applications will be utilised through the day a range of conditions including discal pathology, spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis.
