Physical Exercise in Workplace Settings Webinar
This professional development will explore the evidence behind workplace exercise programs for improving employee physical health, fitness and productivity. Specifically, the health risks associated with contemporary knowledge-based workplaces will be discussed, current trends in employee wellbeing initiatives will be identified, and the effects of previous interventions will be critically reviewed.

With the changing workplace landscape driven by technological advancements and increased knowledge-based occupational demand, risks to employee health associated with sedentary behaviour are becoming more apparent. Exercise scientists and physiologists are well-positioned to design, implement and evaluate inclusive workplace exercise programs using a variety of strategies suitable for various settings and populations, including those involving people with acute, subacute and chronic conditions.

Attendees can expect to gain knowledge of historical and contemporary workplace exercise programs that have sought to address a range of employee health issues, the effectiveness these programs have had, challenges faced by employers to implement wellbeing strategies, and implications for future workplace exercise initiatives. Employers are looking to take better care of their employees now more than ever, and the occupational health and wellbeing space presents consultancy opportunities for AES’s and AEP’s to offer their skills and knowledge in exercise program design, implementation and evaluation.

Presented by Dr Jayden Hunter, PhD, GDipExRehab, BEd(PE)(Hons), ESSAM AEP AES

Dr Jayden Hunter is an AEP and lecturer in the Discipline of Exercise Physiology, La Trobe University, Bendigo, Victoria. He holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology from RMIT University (2013-2016), in which he investigated the effects of different types of exercise supervision on adherence, health and fitness in the workplace, and barriers and facilitators to employee exercise participation. In 2017 he had the opportunity to attend a NIVA Education course in Iceland on Physical Exercise at the Workplace, which was facilitated by leading professors in the field from across the globe.

Jayden has continued his line of research into workplace exercise programs in both white- and blue-collar settings, and has presented research findings at conferences in Europe, the U.K, Canada, and locally in Australia. In 2018 he was runner-up for the Early Career Researcher Award (Exercise Science & Health) at ESSA’s Research to Practice Conference in Brisbane, Australia, and in 2019 he was awarded Best Presentation at the International Conference on Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences in Vancouver, Canada.

Jayden has 10 years’ experience as an AEP in private practice in addition to his university lecturing and research role. This clinical practice spans a range of compensable and non-compensable cases involving a variety of patient conditions. Jayden enjoys a blend of teaching, research and AEP practice, and is excited by future research opportunities to identify and implement effective strategies to promote employee health and wellbeing.
