What your colleagues say:
"This course was outstanding and should be a mandatory component of all undergraduate courses. Exercise Physiologists must be taught the basic principles of boxing and techniques to ensure standards and safe practices are utilised by qualified health professionals.
Boxing is an amazing modality of exercise that is beneficial for many chronic disease patients, but it needs to be taught, and EPs need to be educated on how to deliver safe programs that minimise injury risk to clients and themselves. This course should be the national standard for any health or fitness professional, engaging clients in boxing exercises for fitness and health purposes.
We have a duty of care to ensure that our clients have adequate training and follow best practice principles." - Natalie Delana, AEP

Presented by Hays Daewoud and Dr Luke Del Vecchio of Australian Combat & Exercise
Hays Daewoud is the founder and CEO of Australian Combat & Exercise (ACE). Hays has 35 years of experience in martial arts & combat sports. The motivation to transform the way the fitness industry taught boxing for fitness came when Hays witnessed personal trainers running unsafe outdoor boxing sessions. The lack of technique, structure, progression and care for the integrity of boxing strengthened his resolve to change the industry for the better.
As a coach, Hays has trained and assisted many fighters in boxing, kickboxing and MMA. His most memorable experience was being one of the head coaches for Kickboxer Craig Ruddiman, who won the NSW State title, East Coast title & Australian title. He was the head coach for Kickboxer Chris Chan, who won the Light Heavyweight South Pacific title, and the striking coach for Zein Saliba, who won the AFC Australian Middleweight title in MMA and UFC’s ultimate fighter.
Dr Luke Del Vecchio is one of Australia’s most credentialed sports scientists, Luke is an experienced educator and researcher dedicated to developing programs that enhance human performance.
The co-creator and presenter of ACE’s continuing education programs for fitness professionals, exercise physiologists and strength and conditioning coaches, he also conducts seminars on a wide range of other topics relating to health, exercise and wellness.
As an established exercise physiologist, Luke combines the prescription of clinical exercises and lifestyle programs to enhance the recovery and wellbeing of clients who come to him for rehabilitation.
A highly experienced corporate health and wellness exercise physiologist, he has over 10 years practical experience working in corporate health, primary care and occupational rehabilitation environments, during which time he has conducted over 500 Workplace Health Assessments.
Luke’s extensive qualifications include PhD. Sports Science; MSc. (Exercise Science); Post Grad. Dip (Exercise Rehabilitation); Post Grad.Cert (Diabetes Education & Management); BSc. (Exercise Science & Nutrition).
His additional credentials include Accredited Sport Scientist (ESSA); Accredited Exercise Physiologist (ESSA); Diabetes Nurse Educator; Accredited Massage Therapist (AAMT); and Associate Nutritionist (NSA).

Case Scenario - Advanced Scope & Boxing
An Exercise Physiologist (EP) in private practice receives a client with a request to incorporate boxing into their fitness routine. Having not encountered such a scenario before, the EP consults the decision tree to determine if they are competent to provide this service.
Examining the EP Scope of Practice and Professional Standards, the EP notes that while boxing isn’t explicitly mentioned, exercise interventions for various fitness needs are within their foundational scope. Assessing personal skills, the EP acknowledges a lack of specific training in boxing and identifies they have not undertaken relevant coursework in coaching boxing skills.
Considering the potential risks and their responsibility to provide safe services, the EP decides to undertake upskilling. This involves researching, reviewing evidence, and completing professional development courses specific to boxing. After acquiring advanced knowledge, the EP confidently includes boxing within their scope of practice.
Moving through the decision tree, the EP ensures compliance with insurance coverage, aligns the service with existing business practices, and accepts personal and professional responsibility for offering boxing sessions. This comprehensive approach allows the EP to enhance their service offerings while ensuring the safety and well-being of their clients.
