Best Practice Approach for Tendinopathy Rehab with Prof. Jill Cook

Leading tendon injury expert, Prof. Jill Cook joins us for a chat about a tendinopathy case study.

In this chat we will cover;
• Presentation and assessment of injury
• Plan for the rehab program
• Considerations for pain management
• Opportunity for Q & A

Case history: Fred is a 17 year old volleyballer with left anterior knee pain.
- Trains 5 x per week plus 2 games
- Position is outside hitter – dynamic offensive/defensive role
- No specific incident causing injury, but knee has gradually become more painful
- Pain is always in the same spot, where it attaches to the bottom of his kneecap and never seems to spread
- Strength training is not part of training program
- A sports physician did an ultrasound and diagnosed “patellar tendinitis,” with some tears in the tendon. The doctor was not sure that he should continue to play and gave him some anti-inflammatory medication
- Fred saw a physio who gave him stretches, some frictions and an ultrasound over tendon
- Both clinicians told him he would be better in 6 weeks, but it is now 10 weeks since his pain started, and he feels like it’s getting worse
