Barriers to Long-Term Weight-Loss Success Webinar

Overcoming the Barriers to Long-Term Weight-Loss Success Webinar

How often have you heard someone say: ‘It’s easy – you need to eat less and move more!’ This piece of advice dates back as far as Hippocrates in the fourth century BC, and not much has changed since. Diets are based on this very foundation and despite their different approaches, they are all essentially the same. They set a caloric restriction and develop a set of arbitrary rules to create a fear of certain foods, to ensure you consume less. But whenever you restrict the number of calories you eat, powerful biological forces come into play to fight the resulting weight loss. Despite the hype associated with diets, fewer than 5% succeed on their weight loss journey long-term.

This webinar will cover:
- The ‘set point’
- Regulation of our body weight
- Physiological adaptations following weight loss
- Strategies for long-term weight management

Presented by Dr Nick Fuller

Dr Fuller brings together a diversity of skills having held positions in both the industry and academic sectors. He has degrees in exercise physiology, nutrition and dietetics, and a doctorate in obesity and weight management. His current position as research program leader within the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney involves working with government and industry to identify and develop cost-effective treatments for the treatment and management of obesity and related physical and mental disorders. He has a proven track record of commercialising research in this field to improve not only the health of Australians but the rest of the globe, and continues to receive significant funding and awards for his work. He is a recognised media expert across various mediums, including his role as resident obesity expert on Channel 9’s Today Show, is the author of three best-selling books on the Interval Weight Loss program with Penguin publishing, and has published in top ranked journals in the medical field, including JAMA, Lancet, International Journal of Obesity, Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism, and American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. He has 69 peer-reviewed publications. Nick's work has resulted in policy change in the field of obesity and metabolic disease.
