On 1 January 2021, SIRA is proposing to implement a new fee schedule for exercise physiology. The fee schedule fails to take into account the
scope of practice of Accredited Exercise Physiologists within the
Clinical Framework for the Delivery of Health Services to focus on delivering outcomes for injured workers to optimise functional capacity and return to work. This creates a significant barrier for injured workers and a commercially unviable predicament for local business owners off the back of COVID-19.
The key issue is that SIRA plans to:
• reduce remuneration for initial consultations by 40%
• reduce remuneration for standard consultations by 50%.
During this webinar, ESSA will:
a. Outline proposed changes presented by SIRA
b. Detail negotiations with SIRA including ESSA’s response
c. Explain how you can get involved in advocacy on this issue, including access to resources and support from ESSA.
SIRA have not been able to provide evidence of benefit for the introduction of this fee schedule. This proposal is misaligned with the delivery of value-based care and acts as a barrier to access to evidence-based care for injured workers with chronic and complex conditions as well as those with primary and secondary mental illness.
ESSA has repeatedly recommended that SIRA abandon implementation of the proposed exercise physiology schedule for implementation on 1 January 2021.
