In this presentation a handful of key tips and recommendations will be provided to help you develop an 'exercise action plan' for your clients living with type 1 diabetes. What intensity of exercise is appropriate, exercise duration, suitable blood glucose ranges for safe commencement of exercise, understand basic insulin adjustment guidelines and types, Delayed onset hypoglycaemia (DOHs), exercising timing morning vs. evening, treating hypoglycaemia and liaising with other healthcare professionals. As an exercise professional you have an important role to play in ensuring that exercise is safe for your clients living with type 1 diabetes, this presentation will provide a roadmap to suitable exercise including some useful resources along the way.

Managing Type 1 Diabetes is a juggling act! Regular glucose monitoring, short and long actin Insulin administration, balancing dietary carbohydrate with physical activity and Insulin On Board (IOB) are day to day challenges people living with diabetes face. The potential costs associated insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, test strips or glucose meters required for proper management of the condition are further considerations for these individuals.

Presented by Mr Hayden Kelly, ESSAM, AEP, AES, MHPS

Hayden graduated from UNSW with a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology in 2019, holding ESSA membership, accreditation in exercise physiology and exercise science. 3 Years experience working as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with Diabetes NSW & ACT often delivering webinars, seminars and large expo/forum presentations to registrants of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS). Hayden is involved in training subcontracted exercise professionals to deliver the Beat It Program, an exercise and lifestyle change program for individuals living with or at risk of developing diabetes.
