Accreditation Assessor

ESSA is the peak professional body representing Exercise Scientists, Exercise Physiologists and Sports Scientists. ESSA provides industry leadership through advocacy, research, education, and regulation to support exercise and sports science professionals and the Australian community in becoming a more active nation.

Key responsibilities

The position being offered is permanent, on a part-time basis. Duties include: 

  • Assess domestic and international individual accreditation applications and graduate entry assessments
  • Assess and process other types of accreditation applications as needed
  • Record progress, decisions, outcomes, and correspondence
  • Engage in moderation processes with assessment team
  • Support the development and review of quality assurance and continuous improvement processes
  • Support the development and review of individual accreditation assessment procedures and supporting resources
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with applicants, including timely advice of application outcomes
  • Provide advice and guidance on application processes to prospective applicants and ESSA staff members

Member Care Officer

ESSA is looking for a conscientious Member Care Officer to carry out a range of key customer focused tasks for the organisation. The position being offered is permanent, on a full-time basis.

Key responsibilities

Duties include:

  • Answering phones and incoming emails in an efficient and professional manner, responding to general queries, and redirecting technical requests to appropriate team members
  • Providing customer service and support to applicants and members 
  • Processing membership applications  
  • Updating the student insurance policy record and distributing to our insurance provider on a monthly basis 
  • Processing of SIRA eligibility certificates 
  • Processing incoming and outgoing mail and couriers 
  • Providing backup/relieving to the Member Care Team as required

Project officer

We’re looking for an experienced project officer who is degree qualified in Exercise and Sports Science to join our Regulations Services team. This role is diverse, with a range of duties and projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Exploring future needs and opportunities for profession scopes of practice, and ESSA’s strategic approach to scopes
  • Developing a task delegation framework to outline clinically appropriate delegation from Accredited Exercise Physiologists to other exercise professionals, and support workers
  • Developing resources to support best practice note taking and report writing

About you

To be successful for this role you must meet the following essential requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Exercise & Sports Science
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse data and research and prepare reports, briefing papers and other complex documentation.
  • Project management skills, including coordinating multiple projects and maintain project schedules
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and consult with key stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritise, multi-task, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills

ESSA Publications Committee members

ESSA is seeking expressions of interests for two (2) ESSA Publications Committee members commencing October 2022. The Publications Committee oversees the development of ESSA endorsed, commissioned, or generated research publications, including position statements, consensus statements and guidelines, and collaborates with other organisations on the development of joint publications to assist with the translation and dissemination of exercise and sports science research for the benefit of ESSA professionals.

Key responsibilities

  • Exploring future needs and opportunities for profession scopes of practice, and ESSA’s strategic approach to scopes

About you

Expressions of interest are particularly encouraged from experienced research academics who are, or have been, members of a journal editorial committee relevant to exercise physiology or sports science and who are suitably skilled in research, publication, and practice.

  • Members of the Publications Committee will be appointed for up to a three (3) year term.
  • Members can re-nominate for the committee at the end of their term.
    • It is expected that members of the Publications Committee will attend one, one hour meeting bi-monthly, via zoom scheduled at a time that will suit the majority of members; and contribute to the development and delivery of the annual work plan. Committee members are also expected to prepare for committee meetings in advance and are provided with material for review at least one week prior. ESSA Research Advisor

ESSA is looking to hire a Research Advisor to carry out meaningful and influential work helping to improve the health of all Australians. 

Key responsibilities

In this role you will direct three big project areas: ESSA Research Grants, ESSA Medal and ESSA’s Research Strategy. This role also offers a great opportunity to support evidence-based, new models of care to reduce chronic disease in Australia. Make an impact, help drive innovations and lead research-based initiatives. 

  • Manage the ESSA Research Strategy.
  • Manage the ESSA commitment to in-kind research.
  • Manage the delivery of ESSA Position Statements and other research publications.
  • Oversee and contribute to the governance of the ESSA Research and Publications Committees.
  • Lead the operational requirements of the ESSA Research and Publications Committees in accordance with annual work plans.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications with extensive experience in the conduct of research and/or research management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant research policy and implementation of successful organisation-wide policy, compliance and legislative requirements including detailed understanding and knowledge of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously.
  • Knowledge of research governance principles in the higher education, health, or regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Highly developed written and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with academics, members and colleagues.
