Lower Limb Asymmetry When Fatigued During Sprinting Webinar

Lower Limb Asymmetry When Fatigued During Sprinting Webinar
The vast majority of hamstring injuries (HMI) tend to occur during matches in field-based team sports, and the majority of those HMI tend to occur in the latter stages of the a quarter or half (depending on the sport). In addition, the physical output during these later stages of the match tend to decrease (e.g. number of sprints performed), suggesting that players may be experiencing some levels of fatigue. Much of the literature suggests fatigue as a risk factor for HMI, however, there is very little published research which has examined sprint mechanics when fatigued. Therefore, this presentation will investigate whether sprint mechanics actually changed when athletes are fatigued.

Lower Limb Asymmetry Decreases When Fatigued During Sprinting and the Implications for Hamstring Injury Webinar

Please note: This will be a pre-recorded webinar. Questions can be submitted and answered by the presenter following the webinar.

Presented by Mr Shayne Vial BExSSc, MSc

Shayne is currently conducting his PhD which is investigating the effect of fatigue on sprint technique, its association with hamstring-muscle tendon length and injury risk at Edith Cowan University. Prior to commencing his PhD, Shayne completed his BSc in exercise and sports science and then MSc (biomechanics) which included a biomechanical analysis of various strokes for the Australian mixed doubles badminton team in preparation for the Rio Olympics. For the past 8 years Shayne has worked  with a wide range of age groups and skill levels as a biomechanist, strength and conditioning coach, or sport scientist in a variety of sports including rock climbing, pole vaulting, weightlifting, rugby and soccer.
