Presented by Mandy Shintani, Juliette Fritschi & Sarah Corley:
Mandy Shintani has been an occupational therapist for 30 years and has her Master’s Degree in Gerontology. She is an international speaker at conferences and webinars including: 200 years of Parkinson’s Disease Conference in Australia, National Fall Prevention conference in Canada, Australian OT Association, and the UK ACPIN Neuro Conference. Thirteen years ago, she developed the Activator Poles (patented) and technique specifically for rehabilitation. 3,500 therapists/EPs/Kinesiologists/RAs and fitness instructors in Canada have completed the courses she developed on the use of Nordic walking & specialized walking poles for fitness and rehabilitation. She has been featured numerous times in national media in Canada and was a finalist in the prestigious YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Juliette Fritschi is a physiotherapist who now works in community physiotherapy mainly in the areas of gerontology, exercise for chronic disease, and orthopedics. She completed her PhD on pole walking for older adults from the school of Exercise and Nutrition Science at the University of Queensland in 2015. She has presented at several conferences, has published three papers on pole walking and now runs several Urban Poling walking and exercise classes in the Brisbane area in addition to her physiotherapy practice.
Sarah graduated from Queensland University of Technology in 2012 as an Exercise Physiologist and received full accreditation with ESSA. She then commenced a full time role in neurological and neuromuscular rehabilitation building specialised knowledge and exercise prescription. In 2016 Sarah gained title of Clinical Teacher at Griffith University for involvement in student practicum placement in the neurological and musculoskeletal field. Sarah continues to build her knowledge within this population, presenting at universities and conferences whilst continuing to work in private clinics.
