About the Beat It Trainer Program
Beat It Trainer is an evidence-based program for exercise physiologists, exercise scientists, certificate IV personal trainers and Physiotherapists. It is designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver safe and effective group-based physical activity and lifestyle programs for people who may be overweight and/or obese, and living with or are at risk of diabetes and other lifestyle-related chronic conditions. This course has been developed as a two part education and training program for exercise professionals to become registered Beat It Trainers. After completing these training modules, you will have the knowledge to be able to safely develop programs that suit these groups. Completed together, Diabetes and Exercise Online Learning Program and Beat It Trainer Program have been accredited for a total of 19 CPD points by ESSA.

Part 1: Diabetes and Exercise Online Course
The Diabetes and Exercise learning program provides exercise professionals with extensive knowledge of how to ensure exercise prescription is safe and effective for people living with diabetes and other lifestyle-related chronic conditions. It takes 12 hours to complete online at your own pace. It is accredited for 11 CPD points by ESSA.  Once successfully completed, you become eligible to undertake part 2, the 1 day face to face training.

Part 2: Beat It Trainer (Face to Face Training)
Beat It Trainer is a one day face to face interactive training session that provides you with all the materials, content and support to initiate and run Beat It group physical activity programs. It is accredited for 11 CPD points by ESSA. The training will cover:

  • Diabetes medications and hypoglycaemia
  • New technology
  • Latest research
  • Consultations and exercise assessments
  • Programming
  • Beat It education sessions and a person-centred facilitation 
  • Practical case studies
On successful completion, you will be a registered Beat It Trainer and have access to prospective clients, ongoing support and resources from Diabetes Qualified.

Ongoing Support
Once both courses are successfully completed, you will be accredited for 2 years as a Beat It Trainer, and will get access to prospective clients, and ongoing marketing support. 

What is Beat It?
Beat It: Physical Activity and Lifestyle Program is an evidence-based exercise program for people with, and at risk of, diabetes. 

  • 8 week program
  • One-on-one initial consultation
  • 2 x 1 hour exercise sessions per week
  • 6 x weekly 30-minute lifestyle education sessions
  • Approximately 12-15 participants per program
Available for free to participants accessing NDSS funded programs (*subject to availability)
