Arthritis Essentials® is a comprehensive, self-paced online unit of competency designed to provide health professionals with an easily accessible means of professional development for management of arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions. The unit comprises three modules – musculoskeletal anatomy; the main categories and types of musculoskeletal conditions; and best practice management strategies. Each module contains information, graphics, embedded resources and videos, and a quiz. At the end of the three modules there are two case studies to be completed. Each case study involves short answer questions designed to assess understanding of the content through its application to the outlined scenarios. Completion of the online unit, including all assessment tasks, should take about 7 hours.
Arthritis EssentialsÒ is a pre-requisite for health and exercise professionals to be licensed by Arthritis Australia as a Joint Movement Program provider. Developed by Arthritis Australia with the support of leading health and fitness experts, The Joint MovementÒ is a group exercise program designed to provide safe and effective warm water and/or land based strength exercise programs for people with arthritis and related musculoskeletal conditions. While this professional development is open to all allied health and exercise professionals, only accredited exercise physiologists, physiotherapists and Cert IV fitness and above are eligible to run a Joint Movement Program.
A core unit within the nationally Vocational Education & Training (VET) accredited 10168NAT Course in Management of Musculoskeletal Conditions, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for the unit MSKINF001 Provide information and strategies for musculoskeletal conditions on completion.
