Prostate Cancer PD: A Professional Development Course for Exercise Specialists

Prostate Cancer PD is a professional development course created and delivered by Associate Professor Prue Cormie and the Exercise Oncology Team at Australian Catholic University to provide exercise specialists with everything they need to know about working with prostate cancer patients. The course is based on the latest scientific evidence and extensive clinical experience in delivering best practice care to men with prostate cancer.


Prostate Cancer PD consists of:

- Online Modules -5 video lectures (~1 hour 30 mins per lecture) where you’ll hear from a range of health professionals who specialise in the treatment of prostate cancer patients. The topics cover:

  1. Introduction to Prostate Cancer
  2. Side Effects of Prostate Cancer Treatments
  3. Screening & Monitoring of Prostate Cancer Patients
  4. Exercise Prescription for Prostate Cancer
  5. Working with Prostate Cancer Patient

- Practical Workshop – 4 hour face-to-face workshop delivered in major cities nationally where you will work through case study simulations of real men with prostate cancer with A/Prof Prue Cormie
- Resource Set – An extensive range of over 100 materials to support your practice
- Biennial Webinars – Prostate Cancer PD graduates receive free access to dedicated webinars to keep updated on new scientific discoveries


Prostate Cancer PD is a prerequisite to delivering The Man Plan exercise program and graduates may be eligible to administer The Man Plan at their practice ( The Man Plan is a subsidised program involving two individual consultations and 16 group based exercise sessions for men with prostate cancer receiving Lucrin. Exercise Physiologists who deliver The Man Plan receive referrals for the program from cancer specialists.

Presented by Associate Professor Prue Cormie, PhD, AEP:

Associate Professor Prue Cormie is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist whose research and clinical work focuses on the role of exercise in the management of cancer. She is a Principal Research Fellow at Australian Catholic University and holds Honorary Exercise Physiologist positions at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Austin Health and Royal Melbourne Hospital. A/Prof Cormie is international recognized for her work exploring the role of exercise in the management of cancer. Her research outputs include: over 60 refereed journal publications; 5 book chapters; ~100 refereed conference proceedings; over 30 invited presentations at national and international conferences (5 keynote) and over $3 million in competitive research grant funding. A/Prof Cormie is a passionate and accomplished science communicator who has been featured in a TED talk and has conducted ~100 invited seminar presentations in clinical and general public settings over the last 5 years. The quality of A/Prof Cormie’s work has been recognised with numerous awards including the WA Young Tall Poppy of the Year Science Award in 2015 and the Cancer Council WA Early Career Cancer Researcher of the Year in 2015. She is the Inaugural Chair of the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia Exercise and Cancer Group (initiated the groups establishment) and established the Exercise and Sports Science Australia Cancer Special Interest Group. A core component of her work is invested to translating research into practice for meaningful improvements in health care services for people with cancer.
