Effect of Exercise on Cardiac Structure and Function Webinar

The Effects of Exercise on Cardiac Structure and Function Webinar

Exercise training causes cardiac adaption in order to better cope with the demand for increased cardiac output that exercise requires. Cardiac structure and function change as a result of training, and the specific pattern of change varies with the type of exercise, as well as the intensity and duration of exercise. Acute exercise may also impact cardiac function, particularly in the case of ultra-endurance exercise. It is important to understand normal cardiac changes with exercise in order to differentiate them from changes which occur with cardiac disease and may pose a risk to the exercise participant. This differentiation can be difficult at times because of overlap in cardiac structural change seen with healthy athletic remodelling and diseased hearts, but is important as restriction of intense exercise is an important treatment recommendation in some conditions.
