Metabolic Health Webinar
Metabolic Health – the Cornerstone of Health, Weight & Performance
Metabolism is the processes and chemical pathways by which the body converts the energy in food into a form that can be used by the cells.
When compromised, it leads to a range of common metabolic disorders including Obesity, Diabetes, Chronic Fatigue and Metabolic Syndrome. These conditions now affect 1 in 2 Australians and incur detrimental costs not only to our healthcare system, but individuals (Eg: QOL, exercise capacity). It also plays a key role in recovery and performance.
Given these circumstances, AEP’s require a strong knowledge base and practical skills in the area to optimally and safely manage clients who present with metabolic and energy disorders. AES’s need the same underlying knowledge base to understand how to optimise energy production and minimises fatigue in athletes.
Presented by Mr David Beard & Ms Kirsty Woods
Mr David Beard
David is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with over 40 years experience in the health, fitness and aged care industries. He started working in these areas long before Exercise Physiologists had the recognition they do today and has spent a long time promoting the benefits of professionally prescribed exercise to people with chronic health conditions and for older adults.
David was awarded a Fullbright Scholarship enabling him to complete his Master degree at The University of Arizona, where he specialised in adult fitness and cardiac rehabilitation. It was during this time that he took a keen interest in the underlying biochemistry and physiology of chronic health conditions and how nutrition and exercise impact the body.
Ms Kirsty Woods
Kirsty is a registered Exercise Physiologist and founding practitioner at MHS. She has now helped more than 1,000 West Australians improve their metabolic health.
With over 10 years in the health industry she understands the complexity of obesity and related comorbidities, and the frustrations and challenges it can pose. Kirsty takes a very hands on approach with clients and gets great satisfaction when they achieve long-term goals.
Her specialty areas include complex obesity, PCOS and fatty liver.
