My Health Record Podcast

My Health Record podcast introduces the Accredited Exercise Physiologist to the National Digital Health Strategy 2017 and My Health Record system.

Health Information for a patient/client is currently distributed across a wide range of locations including general practices, hospitals, imaging centres, specialists, and allied health practices. My Health Record is designed to digitally link these health providers, so that they have more up to date and complete summary of their patients/client’s health status at the point of time that they actually need the information to deliver optimum healthcare.

The year the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) unanimously supported the expansion of My Health Record for every Australian, unless they prefer not to have one (opt out). Therefore, unless they opt out, by December 2018 all Australians will have a My Health Record.

The presentation will discuss the benefits of My health Record for both consumer and Healthcare Provider, the documents which can be viewed and uploaded into my Health Record and the security measure and legislation underpinning the My Health Record system.

The recording is of a webinar presented by ESSA on 4 October 2017.

Presented by Kristen Hazelwood BN CDE

As a Diabetes Educator with tertiary qualifications in science and nursing, she has worked with health organisations for over 35 years and continues to enjoy meeting the challenges that affect health and well-being. After working for 12 years in the public hospitals and private hospitals in New South Wales, she moved to Tasmania where she was a Clinical Nurse Consultant in the community setting.

In 1998 Kristen was employed at the Menzies Research Institute in Tasmania. She was manager of the insulin treated diabetes register, project manager of the Tasmanian Diabetes Family Research and managed the research project into Syndrome X. Prior to moving to Brisbane, she was head of Health and Prevention at the Australian Diabetes Council, where programs and services were developed and delivered to people with diabetes and health professionals who cared for people with diabetes and its complications.

Kristen firmly believes health improvements must start in the primary setting where community awareness, prevention and early detection are key factors in maintaining the well-being of the whole community. And health improvements and lifestyle changes can only be achieved if the person takes control of their life and their health.

Now, at the Australian Digital Health Agency, she can see that one of the greatest benefits of linking multiple health professionals and their documentation into one electronic record is, that the record is controlled and managed by the actual person receiving the healthcare.
