Opportunities for AEPs Within Primary Health Care... Podcast

This presentation will provide viewers with current opportunities for AEPs within primary health care in Australia and an understanding of the National eHealth record, including how to register as a Health Provider to access and contribute to an individual’s eHealth record. It will review the National Health Reform in Australia, the current Australian Government, State and Local Government responsibilities for Health, how primary care is funded in Australia. It will explore current opportunities in primary care for AEPs, including through Medicare Locals, private work, general practice, Local Health Networks, the recent introduction of the NDIS, recent changes to the Aged Care sector, and the Mental Health sector.

Kirsty has worked within a variety of primary health care settings as an AEP and a number of other professional roles, such as a Rehabilitation Consultant and Manager of Primary Health Care and Workforce for the previous Department of Health and Ageing. She has also worked as a Clinical Educator and is a current sessional Lecturer in Exercise Prescription for Functional Conditioning with the University of South Australia. She currently owns and operates In2action Exercise Physiology, which has a number of clinics across Adelaide, and specialises in managing chronic disease through exercise and has a special interest in lumbar and pelvic/hip dysfunction. She has also provided consultancy services for Aged Care organisations to assist in establishing and maintaining exercise physiology services for their clients. She currently is Manager, Health Planning, Research and Organisational Development for Central Adelaide and Hills Medicare Local, and has a good understanding of the primary health care setting in Australia, the interface between the acute and primary care sectors, planning services based on population health needs, and the different opportunities that exist for AEPs within these settings.
