This podcast will look at the background of triathlon and cycling and study the various types of triathlon and cycling racing formats. We will then examine how to train specifically for each of these different types of events, this will include designing specific workouts based around the various metrics we can monitor for each of the disciplines and how these change between a beginner, intermediate and elite level athlete. We will also look at programs such as Training Peaks and Best Bike Split to understand how these programs are used to evaluate training and plan race strategy.

Ben is one of the few coaches who can understand coaching from both the athlete perspective and the physiological perspective. This is because he has the rare combination of being both an experienced athlete and fully qualified exercise physiologist providing him both the practical experience and scientific expertise required to devise the highest quality coaching programs and training sessions. Working in high performance sport for the last 10 years, Ben has been lucky enough to work with a wide range of athletes including Olympic runners and elite level triathletes and cyclists. At his clinic in Melbourne he can usually be found conducting Vo2 tests, metabolic testing, body composition testing and altitude training all in the name of science and helping athletes perform better. Along with being a fully accredited exercise physiologist, Ben is also a key member of Craig Alexanders ‘Sansego’ Coaching team. Craig Alexander won the Hawaiian Ironman World Championships in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
