ESSA signs Memorandum of Understanding with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)

Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), effective from 1st June 2018.

The MOU outlines a collaborative relationship between ESSA and the ACSM for the purpose that enhances the activities of each organisation and fosters co-operation in an international context for the benefit of all professions and professionals involved.

“ESSA’s strategic plan looks to demonstrate leadership in exercise and sports science internationally and establishing collaboration with alike international organisations will not only help to develop ESSA as a professional body, but also help to develop the profession internationally,” says Ms. Anita Hobson-Powell, ESSA Chief Executive Officer.

“ESSA has had a longstanding relationship with ACSM for many years and this MOU officially recognises the ongoing collaborations between the two organisations, including the recent international consensus statement on mental health released last month.”

The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) is the largest sports medicine and exercise science organisation in the world. It is dedicated to advancing and integrating scientific research to provide educational and practical applications of exercise science and sports medicine.

As the peak professional body representing qualified exercise and sports science professionals, academics and researchers across Australia, Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) is the recognised provider of an exercise and sports science quality assurance accreditation for the profession. ESSA supports its members and the community through fostering excellence in professional practice, education and training, and research to enhance the health and performance of all Australians.

The MOU will provide a global presence for members, providing each organisation the chance to collaborate on position statements and roundtable papers, which will in turn benefit the organisation’s professions and their professionals.
