In this ESSA Live Chat with Q&A, 2023 AES of the Year Dr Mandy Hagstrom unpacks her career journey as an AES. As well as sharing gems of knowledge from her career, Mandy will share some tips on creating a brand, image and engaging with media to share knowledge on the power of exercise!

Dr Mandy Hagstrom is an accredited exercise scientist at the University of New South Wales. Mandy’s research focuses broadly on the area of strength training, with a strong interest in female physiology and sex differences, and sex and gender equity. Mandy’s work has been broadly covered nationally and internationally through the mainstream media including being featured by the worlds leading sports brand, Nike. Mandy was a previous international athlete having represented both New Zealand and Australia and has also worked in industry as an exercise scientist, personal trainer, and exercise physiologist with both clinical and athletic populations.
