Advocacy at ESSA

ESSA advocates on behalf of our members to generate workforce opportunities, policy inclusion and funding. We promote the benefits of regular physical activity and participation in exercise and sport for all Australians. Our policy and advocacy efforts shape public policy, drive employment opportunities, and support the sustainability and capacity of our member professions.

ESSA advocates across numerous issues. To get involved with our current active advocacy campaigns click the relevant tile:

We advocate for higher quality care for older Australians which should include AEP and AES services in residential, home and community care.

GST on exercise physiology services

ESSA advocates for the abolition of Australia’s goods and services tax (GST) on exercise physiology services because it causes inequity in healthcare as well as barriers to affordability and access to exercise physiology services.

National Disability Insurance Scheme

We are defending the NDIS’ continued funding of exercise physiology and exercise science services to ensure quality physical and psycho-social health outcomes for Australians with disability.

Department of Veteran Affairs

ESSA is advocating to overturn the government’s decision to limit Australian veterans’ visits to more than one physical therapy provider for the same condition on the same day.

Workers’ compensation

ESSA works closely with the state regulators in workers’ compensation to ensure it is commercially viable for exercise professionals to work in these schemes and assist injured workers to get back to work.
