AEP Case Conference: Disability

Join our upcoming AEP Case Conference
AEP Case Conferences are online webinar discussions designed to support AEPs build confidence in clinical practice. They aim to provide an opportunity for a small group of AEPs to discuss best practice approaches for a specific client (case). 

What is covered?
AEPs and disability experts Amanda Semaan and Kara Foscholo from Active Ability will facilitate a small group discussion for a female client presenting with Angelman Syndrome.  We will discuss how to approach each stage of a client’s journey – from referral, assessment, design of intervention and delivery to monitoring, review and reporting. 

How can AEPs benefit?
Broaden knowledge about operating within the disability sector, including the NDIS and group home environments
Develop strategies to manage client non-compliance 
Identify the most appropriate and relevant options for assessment and exercise prescription.
Understand the application of clinical reasoning. 
Understand how to best manage client expectations and referrer obligations.
•       Opportunity to ask questions, seek feedback on current practice and gain confidence in treating clients with an intellectual disability.

Expert AEPs

Amanda Semaan is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and has been practicing since 2012. Amanda currently works across both the practitioner and education field. Amanda is the co-director of Active Ability, an allied health business specialising in the provision of disability services (founded 2014). Her personal areas of expertise include mental health, intellectual disability and Aboriginal health. Amanda is also employed part-time with the University of Sydney (since 2012) as an Associate Lecturer in Work Integrated Learning. 

Kara Foscholo is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist and has been practicing since 2012. Kara is the co-director of Active Ability, an allied health business specialising in the provision of disability services (founded 2014). Her personal areas of expertise include intellectual disability and neurological conditions (in particular, Multiple Sclerosis) having worked on a research project looking at different types of exercise for adults with intellectual disability, The University of Sydney's FitAbility clinic and Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) prior to starting Active Ability.
