ARPA (Australian Rehabilitation Providers Association) is excited to present an informative webinar tailored for ESSA (Exercise & Sports Science Australia) members. This presentation aims to equip Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) with comprehensive insights into the pivotal role they play in early intervention, workplace rehabilitation, and promoting the health benefits of good work.

Content & Learning Outcomes
Benefits of Early Intervention and Referral to Workplace Rehabilitation: Attendees will grasp the significance of early intervention in helping worker’s recover from workplace injuries. The presentation will emphasize how AEPs can collaborate with employers and medical professionals to identify potential issues and implement effective rehabilitation strategies.

Health Benefits of Good Work: Understanding the link between work and health is essential. The presentation will delve into the positive impact of meaningful work on physical and mental health. Attendees will gain insights into how AEPs can advocate for appropriate work prescription that promotes recovery and contributes to overall wellness.

A Day-in-the-Life of an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP): Through real world case studies, the presentation will provide an immersive portrayal of an AEP's typical day. Attendees will explore the varied responsibilities, including assessments, exercise prescription, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Real-life scenarios will showcase how AEPs act as agents of change, enabling individuals to regain function, return to work, and return to life.

Role of AEPs in Building Capacity: The presentation will underscore AEPs' role as integral members of the rehabilitation team. By empowering attendees with knowledge and tools, the session will enable AEPs to collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals, employers, and clients. Participants will discover how AEPs contribute to enhancing the overall rehabilitation process and fostering a holistic approach to health.

Gerald Peterson
Gerald Peterson is a highly accomplished professional with a passion for well-being and helping those with their rehabilitation and recovery. Gerald embarked on his academic journey at the University of Queensland, where he graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Human Movement Studies (Exercise Science). Gerald's career began with UQ Sport, where he honed his skills in promoting health and wellness and exercise prescription. His commitment to enhancing the lives of others led him to transition into the field of Workplace Rehabilitation. Here, he worked with individuals grappling with physical and psychological injuries and illnesses within the complex landscape of workers' compensation.

As KINNECT, a leader in the Occupational Health and Workplace Rehabilitation industry, continued to expand, Gerald assumed
roles as a team manager and later, as the State Manager for New South Wales. 

Outside of his professional pursuits, Gerald enjoys time with his wife and two young boys. He is also an avid cyclist. Gerald Peterson's journey is a testament to his passion for promoting Workplace Rehabilitation as an avenue for Accredited Exercise Physiologists to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Ben Fitzpatrick
Ben Fitzpatrick is an Exercise Physiologist with over 15 years’ experience in the personal injury schemes in Australia. Motivated to assist others with injuries or disabilities in compensable schemes, a career in Occupational Rehabilitation was an obvious arena. Ben has been a council member of The Australian Rehabilitation Providers Association (ARPA) NSW Council since October 2019, which allows Ben to play a part in the bettering the Australian workplace health, return to work and rehabilitation industry and advocating for the good work AEPs are able to contribute with and promoting The Health Benefits of Good Work across Australian workplaces and in the healthcare field.
