Exercise for People with Breast Cancer Part 2

Exercise for People with Breast Cancer - Part 2

This online activity is the second in a two-part series designed to offer best practice recommendations and guidance from the most recent research for individuals affected by breast cancer, including patients, survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
This PD begins by exploring the various types of exercises to offer a well-rounded approach. Aerobic exercises (i.e., walking and swimming), strength training, flexibility and mind-body practices (i.e., yoga and meditation) will be explored. Each type is presented with benefits and safety considerations.
Tailoring exercise programs is a cornerstone of the online activity. Special attention is given to adapting exercises during different stages of treatment to accommodate changing physical capabilities and sensitivities.
Lifestyle and behavioural considerations are integrated to create a holistic approach. Practical tips for maintaining a balanced lifestyle are shared to complement the exercise regimen. This online activity underscores the significance of a supportive community, inclusive of the practitioner. Resources and further support are highlighted to equip attendees with tools for continued progress.
This is a recording of an ESSA webinar presented on 19 December 2023.

Presented by Dr Caitlin Fox-Harding

Dr Caitlin Fox-Harding is an early career researcher and academic working towards achieving an independent and self-sustaining career in exercise medicine. After having her PhD in Exercise and Sports Science conferred in October 2019 from the University of Sydney, Dr Fox-Harding began as a teaching-research scholar at Edith Cowan University in December 2019. Her doctoral research emphasised the need, and capacity, for young people with severe psychiatric disorders to engage in high intensity interval training as part of adjunct treatment. Her lifelong passion for the intersectionality of exercise and health stemmed from over 15-years of being an elite athlete (a former Australian Team member for the Olympic sport of fencing) along with her undergraduate education from Brown University (USA) in Public Health. Dr Fox-Harding has been privileged to be surrounded by experienced mentors within the fields of exercise medicine, oncology and mental health and continues to develop her research through her own supervision of PhD and Masters by Research students.
