Live Q&A with Chat: GST Advocacy Update

The application of GST on exercise physiology services is confusing and frustrating. ESSA is hosting an information session to shed some light on the topic and provide an update on advocacy activities. The conversation will answer questions on why Accredited Exercise Physiologists must pay GST and why it is taking so long to get this policy changed. Additionally, an update will be provided on what ESSA has been doing to shift the dial on this issue and how ESSA accredited professionals can get involved. Register online for this free session which will be held at 5.30pm (AEST) on Monday 22 April. This learning activity will provide the opportunity for ESSA accredited professionals to learn about:

  • History of the GST
  • Mechanism for GST reform
  • ESSA's actions so far
  • Next steps for advocacy
  • How ESSA accredited professionals can get involved

  • Presented by Judy Powell and David Beard

Judy Powell has a Master of Public Health and an undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science. She has over 30 years experience working across the sport, health and fitness and public health sectors. Currently she is the Policy and Advocacy Manager at the Exercise and Sports Science Australia.

David has over 35 years experience working in the health, fitness and aged care industries.  For the past 8 years his focus has been on metabolic health, helping a range of clients with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, obesity, PCOS and insulin resistance.  David has been the WA Chapter chair for the past 10 years and has been active in lobbying for the removal of GST for much of that time.  He has just recently joined the WA Chamber of Commerce to lobby for changes to payroll tax in WA as it impacts allied health businesses.
