Making Sports Science Easier Using Data Analysis and Visualisation Programs Webinar

The presentation will provide an introduction to R and Power BI for applied practitioners. Both R and Power BI are powerful programs that can be used for basic (and advanced) analysis and visualisation of data that practitioners commonly use. This presentation will demonstrate some basics on how to use the programs, some methods to clean datasets and simple ways to summarise data and finally how to visualise it. Both programs are extremely useful to practitioners when required to deal with datasets and can assist in the reporting process back to coaches and athletes.

Presented by Dr Heidi Thornton, PhD, AES, ASpS2

Heidi is an applied sports scientist, employed by the Gold Coast Suns Football Club and the Newcastle Knights Rugby League Club. Her roles at both clubs entails all athlete monitoring processes (training and game day), such as collecting, maintaining, and summarising information for performance staff, coaches and players. Heidi has the responsibility to manage and develop both clubs athlete management systems, helping make all processes as efficient and user-friendly as possible. Heidi is involved in a wide range of research projects across various team sports, regularly consult to multiple Universities to present on various topics of applied sports science. Heidi received my PhD from La Trobe University in 2019, which investigated training monitoring practices in team sports, aiming to determine which tools are useful in applied settings to identify training responses.
