Motivating Behaviour Change: Applying Theory to Practice Launceston Workshop

This workshop will provide foundational knowledge of behaviour change theories and how they can be practically applied in health settings, with many of the resources adapted from the Motivational Interviewing counselling approach developed by Miller and Rollnick. An overview of the psychological principals that under-pin human behaviour and behaviour change will be the focus of the first half of this workshop. The second half of the workshop will comprise interactive activities focussing on how these theories and principles can be applied in practice. During this practical component, participants will be provided resources and tools to adapt to their own practice. Participants are invited to bring examples from their own workplaces/experiences and work in small groups to apply the theory and practical strategies covered in the workshop. After this workshop, participants should feel comfortable to apply and adapt the resources and tools used in the workshop to their own work and practice in order to get better outcomes for their clients.
