ESSA 2021 Annual General Meeting sees appointment of newly Elected Directors

14 May 2021

Last night, Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was attended by its members. Thank you to all those who joined the AGM virtually and was involved in the proceedings.

An important element of this year’s AGM was the Board Election and voting. There were three Director positions up for election, with seven nominations submitted by ESSA members. We congratulate and welcome Ms Niamh Mundell and Associate Professor Steve Fraser who were elected to join the ESSA National Board, with Distinguished Professor Aaron Coutts re-elected to his long-standing Director position. We look forward to sharing more about ESSA’s two new Board members with the membership in the near future.

As we welcome Niamh and Steve to the ESSA Board, we also farewell Professor Steve Selig and Associate Professor Simon Rosenbaum – two dedicated and hardworking Directors who have stepped down from their positions on the Board. Simon has been on the Board for the last six years, while Steve has served ESSA and the organisation for an amazing 16 years.

In light of this significant feat, ESSA President, Kirsty Rawlings presented Steve with Life membership, making him the fourth member to receive this recognition for achieving a high level of professional accomplishment, responsibility and service to ESSA. Further details about this award and Steve's contributions will be shared with the membership next week.

ESSA members were then invited to vote on Special Resolutions to change elements of ESSA’s Constitution. Under the Corporations Act, changes to the Constitution required a 75% supportive vote to be approved. All three motions were approved by the membership cohort. Further details about these Special Resolutions can be found on the ESSA website here.

Awards and acknowledgment for the 2020 ESSA Industry Awards, 2020 ESSA Medal were also presented. Congratulations once again to these winners.

Minutes for the 2021 ESSA AGM will be made available to the membership over the coming weeks.
