Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and the Australasian Society for Physical Activity (ASPA) are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), effective from 1st January 2021.

The MOU outlines a collaborative relationship between ESSA and the ASPA, which will enhance the activities of each organisation and foster an international co-operation for the benefit of all professions and professionals involved within the respective organisation's research and advocacy efforts.

“ESSA’s new strategic plan looks to demonstrate leadership in exercise and sports science internationally and establishing collaboration with alike international organisations will not only help to develop ESSA as a professional body, but also help to develop the profession internationally,” says Ms. Anita Hobson-Powell, CEO of ESSA.

The Australasian Society for Physical Activity (ASPA) is a professional society to advance the science and practice of physical activity in Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia. The Society provides a forum to bring together researchers, practitioners, and policy makers to share expertise and experiences in the advancement of the field of physical activity.

As the peak professional body representing qualified exercise and sports science professionals, academics and researchers across Australia, Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) is the recognised provider of an exercise and sports science quality assurance accreditation for the profession. ESSA supports its members and the community to enhance the health and performance of all Australians.

“As a newly established professional society, ASPA is extremely pleased to establish a collaborative relationship with ESSA. ASPA’s vision is to advance knowledge and integration of physical activity into health, education, sport and recreation, urban planning and transport into policy and practice. This MOU between ASPA and ESSA will provide a wonderful opportunity to advance our shared vision of a more active and healthy society,” responded Alfred Deakin Professor Jo Salmon, ASPA Founder and President.
