BASES signs updated MoU with ESSA

27 February 2023

Members of Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) will benefit from a renewed partnership with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) , which ensures access to a range of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities at the same rate as BASES’ members.

An updated Memorandum of Understanding was signed by BASES Executive Director, Ian Wilson, and ESSA CEO, Anita Hobson-Powell on January 23, 2023.

Agreement has also been reached around the 2023 BASES Conference to be held in Coventry in November, with ESSA members able to access member pricing rather than higher non-member rates, if they’re in the country at the time of the event.

“Establishing MOUs with our international association colleagues is essential to ESSA’s ability to represent its growing membership,” Anita Hobson-Powell said.

“BASES has long been recognised for the work they have done in Sports Science accreditation.

"Opportunities like these to collaborate, especially through shared Continuous Professional Development opportunities, will further strengthen our profession globally.”

Ian Wilson said BASES was proud to be extending and evolving its relationship with a long-standing professional organisation.

“ESSA is committed to establishing, promoting and defending the career paths of tertiary trained exercise and sports science practitioners, for which this agreement will provide members from both Associations with further benefits and opportunities," he explained.

“BASES provides a range of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities for members. ESSA members can now access this learning at the same rate as BASES’ members."

The updated MOU reflects the defined agreed collaborative relationship between the BASES and ESSA for purposes that enhance the activities of each organisation and foster co-operation in an international context for the benefit of all professions and professionals involved within both organisations.

ESSA is a peak professional organisation representing about 11,000 members, including student members. It is committed to establishing, promoting and representing the career paths of tertiary-trained exercise and sports science practitioners including Accredited Exercise Physiologists, Accredited Exercise Scientists, Accredited Sports Scientists & Accredited High Performance Managers.

ESSA’s vision is that all Australians use exercise and sports science to improve their health and performance and its purpose is to provide industry leadership through advocacy, research, education and regulation to support exercise and sports science professionals and the Australian community in becoming a more active nation.
