How To Build and Maintain Your Client Base Podcast

Applying effective communication and soft skills can improve client retention and engagement. Effective retention skills include goal setting, visualisation, applying behaviour change models, and developing social connection opportunities for clients. This CPD provides an overview of recommended retention strategies and how they combine improved client outcomes and financial benefits for the practitioner.

During a typical client journey through the Exercise Right for Active Ageing project, the practitioner has 12 opportunities to continually assess a client’s medical history, needs and goals.  Practitioners should aim to develop an individual plan for each client to retain the client beyond their subsidised sessions.

Early career practitioners need to be confident in accessing the most appropriate funding pathway to support their clients. This requires knowledge of the available funding options for their client cohorts, and the skills to remain updated on changing policy and criteria. Many clients are unaware of funding they are eligible for, and it is the responsibility of the practitioner to educate and inform their client to reduce financial barriers when possible.

The PDO provides early career practitioners with examples of ESSA developed and partner programs which they can access through further training, certification or licensing to improve the practitioner’s ability to provide more services for their clients. Examples include the HEAL™ program, EIM and the Early Career Network.
