The Running Patient: Real-time Run Analysis & Functional Reh



Learn how you can help your patients to determine the biomechanical cause of their running injury and prevent future injury with just a treadmill and a device. You will learn how to analyse movement dysfunction both dynamically (while running) and through functional movement assessment.

This workshop focuses on movement biomechanics in running and how it affects the entire kinetic chain. You will be presented with evidence-based research findings, particularly relating to cadence and its effect on ground reaction forces and injury risk. The most common overuse injuries, including patellofemoral pain syndrome, iliotibial band friction syndrome, tibial stress syndrome and lower limb tendinopathy will be discussed.

Particular emphasis will be placed on analysing both optimal and aberrant biomechanics using video analysis; functional movement analysis and use of specific objective assessments and then correcting movement dysfunction through movement re-education, movement re-patterning and specific strength-conditioning exercises.

The workshop is highly practical with a significant hands-on component.

Mel is both a Physiotherapist (graduated with Masters of Physiotherapy in 2016) and an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with 17 years’ experience in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Due to her dual qualifications, Mel treats patients with acute, post-acute and persisting pain/conditions. Mel is focussed on active recovery and the use of exercise prescription and advice to meet her patients recovery goals.

Mel is an avid recreational runner and treats many patients with running injuries or wanting to improve their running performance and has experience in video analysis of running; real-time running technique adjustments; biomechanical analysis related to running; exercise prescription to assist recovery from injury/injury; prevention/ and performance; running training programs; and footwear prescription and advice.
