Exercise Science Accreditation

Accredited Exercise Scientist accreditation (AES) is available to:

  • Graduates of an ESSA-accredited Bachelor degree in exercise and sports science
  • Graduates of a non-ESSA accredited Bachelor degree in exercise and sports science (or international equivalent) who are able demonstrate that their coursework and practical experience meets ESSA's Exercise Science  Standards, including 140 hours of practicum.

If you are applying to undertake postgraduate study in the near future in order to become an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) and do not wish to practise as an AES, please refer to the graduate entry assessment section.

Got a question?
Please review the application form carefully as this provides information on how to complete the application. If you still have questions you can contact us at assessments@essa.org.au

Please note: Between November 2021 - February 2022 is ESSA's busiest time in terms of applications. Please be aware there is no ability to fast track applications.

How to Apply:

There are two different accreditation pathways depending on whether you undertook an ESSA-accredited or a non-ESSA accredited course. To check your course you can find a full list of accredited courses here.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR APPLICANTS WHO HAVE COMPLETED A NON-ESSA ACCREDITED COURSE

The '2020 Accredited Exercise Scientist Professional Standards for Accreditation' were approved by the ESSA Board in June 2020. These standards will come into effect from 1 January 2022, superceding the '2013 Exercise Science Standards'. Both sets of Standards can be viewed here.

What this means for you

  • If you submit an application in 2021, are unable to meet all elements of the 2013 Exercise Science Standards AND are not able to address these elements prior to 31 December 2021, you will need to reapply in 2022 and demonstrate that you meet the 2020 AES Professional Standards.

All applications received from 1 January 2022 must address the 2020 AES Professional Standards. For those applicants wishing to start their application for submission in 2022, please see the revised Standards template here.
